Edwin wants happy ending

10/06/2006: Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has admitted this will be his last World Cup for Holland but he is confident they can win the tournament.

The 35-year-old Manchester United number one recognises that Dutch coach Marco van Basten is assembling a younger squad and he is one of the elder statesmen in the side going into the finals in Germany.

As a result the former Fulham and Juventus shot-stopper does not think his international future - which consists of over 100 appearances - will last long after Holland's campaign in Germany draws to a close, but he is aiming to go out on a high note as captain.

He told MUTV: "I'm not getting any younger, so this will probably be one of the last things that I will do for Holland.

"We've got a young team but I think with the quality we have and with the quality of our manager we can surprise a few people."

He added: "We are always expected to do well and I don't always think that's fair because Holland is only a small country.

"Take Argentina, Brazil, England, look at the amount of players they can choose from. It's good that we always get mentioned among the favourites because Holland doesn't have as big a league as England, Germany, France or Italy."

Holland get their World Cup campaign started against Serbia in Leipzig on Sunday afternoon with van basten hoping to have a fully fit squad to select from.

10/06/2006: The Dutch will win **** all again. The side is too inexperienced. If Kronkamp plays - well he can't get in Liverpool's side and they are not very good.
