Edwards: We are sleeping giants
26/05/2006: As the Soca Warriors prepare to play Wales on Saturday teatime (live on BBC2) at the Liebherr GAK Stadium in Graz in the latest of their World Cup warm-up games, midfielder Carlos Edwards believes his team has every chance of causing an upset in Germany.
"We can cause a few upsets and raise a few eyebrows and show the world that we not just a resort country," said Edwards to the Daily Post.
The midfielder was an integral part of Trinidad's qualifying campaign and will be earning his 49th international cap against Wales.
"We are a country that can put anyone away on our day. We are sleeping giants.
"That's because we have the players and we have the coaching staff who are all doing great jobs.
"We are no different to the English or the Swedes because on the day, it's who wants it the most.
"As our skipper Dwight Yorke has said - 11 players on paper says nothing. It's all about who wants it more on the day."
Edwards started his career in Wales playing for Wrexham for five years before moving on to Championship side Luton where he has enjoyed a successful first season under manager Mike Newell.
