Ecuador World Cup squad announced

11/05/2006: Luis Suarez made just one surprise choice in Ecuador's World Cup squad for the finals that start in Germany in June.

The coach has recalled the Argentina-based Ivan Kaviedes. The much travelled Kaviedes is famed for his poor disciplinary record. The striker played briefly for Crystal Palace in 2004 having cost the south London club £2million.

The rest of the squad was unsurprising, with the omission of Franklin Salas expected due to the defender having picked up a knee injury last month.

Aston Villa's Ulises de la Cruz is included despite not having the most successful of seasons at the West Midlands club.

Ecuador face Poland, Germany and Costa Rica in their first phase group.

Goalkeepers: Damian Lanza (Aucas), Edwin Villafuerte (Deportivo Quito), Cristian Mora (LDU).

Defenders: Ivan Hurtado (Al Arabi, Qatar), Jose Luis Perlaza (Olmedo), Geovanny Espinoza (LDU), Ulises de la Cruz (Aston Villa), Paul Ambrossi (LDU), Neicer Reasco (LDU), Jorge Guagua (El Nacional),

Midfielders: Marlon Ayovi (Deportivo Quito), Edwin Tenorio (Barcelona), Edison Mendez (LDU), Patricio Urrutia (LDU), Cristian Lara (El Nacional), Segundo Castillo (El Nacional), Luis Antonio Valencia (Recreativo Huelva), Luis Fernando Saritama (Deportivo Quito).

Forwards: Cristian Benitez (El Nacional), Carlos Tenorio (Al Sadd, Qatar), Agustin Delgado (LDU), Ivan Kaviedes (Argentinos Juniors, Argentina), Felix Borja (El Nacional).
