Dutch coach in demand

17/07/2007:

Australia are ready to offer former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat the chance to lead them through to the World Cup 2010.

The Socceroos are currently struggling to qualify for the latter stages of the Asia Cup, after an opening 1-1 draw with lowly Oman was followed by a 3-1 defeat to Iraq.

Coach Graham Arnold, a former Socceroos international, has come under fire and rumours now suggests Advocaat will be asked to take over in 2008 to lead the side to South Africa.

The 59-year-old Dutchman was on the shortlist for the Socceroos job in 2005 when fellow countryman Guud Hiddink took the role.

Advocaat, who was in charge of the Holland squad at Euro 2004, has one year left on his contract at Russian Premier League outfit Zenit St Petersburg.
