Duff transfer latest

20/07/2006: Spurs are waiting for showdown talks between Damien Duff and Chelsea before making an improved offer for the Ireland international.

Tottenham chief Martin Jol has already had one bid of around £6.9million for Duff rejected by the Blues who are believed to value him at nearer £11million.

Duff has one more year to run on his contract, said to be worth £75,000 a week, but Chelsea have hinted they may want to keep him and some reports have suggested Jose Mourinho could be ready to offer him a new deal.

The 27-year-old may however find that he has to accept a pay cut of around a third if he wants to remain at Stamford Bridge and that could signal the end of his time at the club.

Duff is likely to meet with Mourinho before the end of the week to decide which direction his career is heading and Spurs are watching developments closely.

First-team places at Chelsea maybe hard to come by next season and Duff knows he would be likely to get far more action if he moved to White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, reports suggesting Duff left training early to speak to Tottenham have been blasted and it has now been revealed the player was suffering with blisters and was excused training.
