Double injury fears for Holland

18/06/2006: Holland coach Marco van Basten could be without Phillip Cocu and John Heitinga for Wednesday's Group C decider against Argentina.

Ajax's 22-year-old defender, Heitinga, was forced to miss training on Saturday with a slight hamstring strain, while PSV Eindhoven's 35-year-old midfield veteran, Cocu, was also ruled out with an ankle knock.

Van Basten will assess the pair further at the start of the week before deciding if it is worth risking them for the match in Frankfurt or rest them for the second round.

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar feels they would be better served leaving the duo out of the game, while Heitinga has already been booked and would be suspended for the last 16 tie if he plays and receives another yellow card.

Van der Sar said: "The most important thing is that we can start with our strongest team in the second round. Therefore it might be wise to take no risks, but it is the coach's decision.

"You cannot start against Argentina with a plan about what result you want to have, we are not capable of doing that."

Both Argentina and Holland have qualified for the knockout stage but the Dutch need a win to top the group and avoid a clash with Portugal, who are almost certain to win Group D.
