Donadoni wants foreign quotas

02/05/2007:
Italy coach Roberto Donadoni feels that there are far too many foreigners playing in the Italian top flight at present.
The Milan legend took over from Marcello Lippi after last summer's successful World Cup campaign and has the arduous task of trying to keep the Azzurri at the top of the footballing tree.

Italy currently sit in fourth place in the Group B standings as they attempt to qualify for Euro 2008 but are just two points behind table-topping Ukraine.

England coach Steve McClaren has a similar problem to his Italian counterpart with foreigners flooding the Premiership and the likes of Arsenal fielding sides with no English players at all.

Donadoni feels it is high time that Serie A officials took note and limited the number of overseas stars plying their trade in Italy.

"Someone may dislike me for saying this, but honestly there are too many foreigners in Italy," he said.

"When I was playing there were three foreigners per team and maybe that wasn't enough, but I don't think a team should have more than five."
