Domenech sets high targets

28/06/2006: Raymond Domenech feels France can reach the World Cup final and insists that has been their target all the way through the tournament.

The coach saw his side pull off a surprise by beating in-form Spain on Tuesday night, with the 3-1 success seeing Les Blues through to the quarter-finals.

Goals from Franck Ribery, Patrick Vieira and Zinedine Zidane set up a showdown with Brazil, with Domenech believing his ageing side can cause another upset.

The French coach said: "I am very satisfied with the way we played, there was an emotional aspect.

"I don't know what will happen against Brazil, but we just want to go until the final of the World Cup.

"Our aim remains the same - to be present on July 9, we will take stock after."

Meanwhile, Domenech has revealed his strategy to keep his senior players fresh for the big games and enabling them to beat the much younger Spanish side.

He added: "Patience is important. The youngsters generally get out of breath quicker, the elders can show patience.

"Between the group matches and the second round the physical training was reduced to almost nothing. We just did recovery."
