Domenech demands video replays
19/06/2006: France boss Raymond Domenech has cited Patrick Vieira's disallowed goal for the reason behind their surprise draw against South Korea in World Cup 2006.
Thierry Henry struck after just nine minutes to put Les Bleus in control and they should have doubled their lead after Vieira powered a header which appeared to cross the line only for the officials to wave play on, even though South Korean goalkeeper Woon-Jae Lee was behind the line when the save was made.
Although France dominated for the vast majority of the game they failed to capitalise and were made to pay as Park Ji-Sung snatched a point with a late equaliser.
France's progression from Group G is now in the balance and they may require an emphatic victory over Togo to make it through to the knockout stages.
Domenech feels his side were undone by a crucial decision and has called for the introduction of video replays.
"We did score a second goal but it was not recognised," he said. "If you appealed every time you feel a mistake has been made it would be a never-ending story but video replays would definitely have helped clarify this situation.
"It's a pity that at this level we do not use all the technology that we could. We have to play another match against Togo now and we do not know what events will happen."
