Defender eyes attacking clash

27/06/2006: France star Mikael Silvestre believes Tuesday's clash with Spain will be a great footballing spectacle with both sides set to attack.

The French stuttered through their group games with draws against Switzerland and South Korea, before sealing their place in the last 16 with victory over African minnows Togo.

Les Bleus have come in for plenty of criticism from the media, with many in the game feeling that a number of their players are a bit long in the tooth and are unable to influence games at the highest level any more.

Conversely Spain won all three of their group games, with their opening 4-0 victory over the Ukraine rated as one of the best performances of the tournament to date.

Despite the negative press surrounding his side, Manchester United star Silvestre feels that France will up their game against the Spanish and the fans will be treated to a feast of exciting football.

"Spain and France share the same spirit," he said. "It's do or die and we have to do something to get a result.

"The game against Spain will be a very good game to watch. It's going to be a good position for us because they have an attacking spirit.

"We have been anxious, but now it's like a new tournament."
