Cruz wants World Cup berth

11/05/2006: Italian-based striker Julio Cruz of Inter Milan says he still believes he can be selected and play a major role in Argentina's World Cup squad this summer.

He has only been involved in the Argentinian squad on two occasions to date, but says he is refusing to give up on his hopes of appearing for the Albicelestes this summer.

He is yet to secure a regular place in a good Inter side but has been in good form in front of goal, finding the back of the net on 17 occasions this term.

"I don't know what is being said in Argentina but of course I want to be called to play the World Cup. Playing that competition is the dream that all players have," he said.

"I have only been called twice by Jose Pekerman but that doesn't mean anything, I know that he is a serious man and a coach that has won many important things working with the youth national teams."

Formerly with Feyenoord and Bolgna, the 31-year-old forward joined Inter in 2003.
