Crouch to start against Paraguay
03/06/2006: Peter Crouch will lead the England line in their opening group game at Germany 2006 according to coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
The Liverpool striker scored a hat-trick in their latest World Cup warm-up game against Jamaica at Old Trafford winning 6-0 and Crouch could even afford to miss a penalty.
Goals from Michael Owen, Frank Lampard and an own goal saw England stroll to an easy win against a poor and disorganised Jamaican side.
Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson received a warm reception from the Old Trafford crowd on his final international on English soil.
Both Ashley Cole and John Terry picked up minor knocks but both hope to be fit for the first game on June 10.
Eriksson was delighted at the result and pleased with Crouch's performance.
He said: "It was a very good match and very emotional for me.
"Peter Crouch had a fantastic game, playing as first striker or link player, he won almost everything in the air and scored goals.
"I think he will start next Saturday. I think he deserves it.
"It would be difficult to leave him out after scoring a hat-trick and the performance he had today.
"The only thing I would criticise him about a little bit is how he took the penalty. It was a golden opportunity but he joked about it and was sorry afterwards.
"He should have taken it seriously, you can miss them, but don't take them that way.
"If it was a penalty shoot-out I doubt he would have taken it in that way - I certainly hope not."
