Vatreni World Cup squad named

12/05/2006: The Croatia World Cup squad was named on Friday with coach Zlatko Kranjcar springing no major surprises.

Kranjcar has named a 24-man squad taking Dinamo Zagreb defender Marijan Buljat as cover in case of injury.

Kranjcar said: "I earlier said I would pick the players who carried the burden of qualifying so I've had a pretty clear picture of who to choose.

"I can feel a great team spirit and I think we're capable of doing it."

The squad contains no Premiership stars but includes Glasgow Ranger's hitman Dado Prso

Goalkeepers : Stipe Pletikosa (Hajduk Split), Joe Didulica (Austria Vienna), Tomislav Butina (Club Bruges).

Defenders: Robert Kovac (Juventus), Stjepan Tomas (Galatasaray), Mario Tokic (Austria Vienna), Josip Simunic (Hertha Berlin), Igor Tudor (Siena), Marijan Buljat (Dinamo Zagreb), Dario Simic (AC Milan).

Midfielders: Jerko Leko (Dynamo Kiev), Niko Kranjcar (Hajduk Split), Niko Kovac (Hertha Berlin), Marko Babic (Bayer Leverkusen), Darijo Srna (Shakhtar Donetsk), Ivan Leko (Club Bruges), Luka Modric (Dinamo Zagreb), Jurica Vranjes (Werder Bremen), Anthony Seric (Panathinaikos).

Forwards: Ivan Klasnic (Werder Bremen), Bosko Balaban (Club Bruges), Ivica Olic (CSKA Moscow), Ivan Bosnjak (Dinamo Zagreb), Dado Prso (Rangers).

Vatreni have been placed in the 'group of death' at this year's finals facing Australia, Brazil and Japan. Their first World Cup game is against Brazil in Berlin on Tuesday June 13.
