Croatia injury boost

17/06/2006: Croatia skipper Niko Kovac is expected return to the starting line-up to face Japan, after recovering from a rib injury.

The 24-year-old midfielder suffered a blow to his ribs during their 1-0 defeat to Brazil, after a heavy challenge from Roberto Carlos, and it was uncertain if the highly-influential skipper would be able to play any further part in their group matches.

However, he has rejoined the squad for group training despite being in some pain, and is expected to be named in the starting line-up on Sunday.
