Costinha: I can make cut
06/05/2006: Despite being frozen out at Dinamo Moscow, Costinha still believes he has a good chance of making the Portugal World Cup squad.
The midfielder is a key figure in the Portugal team and played an important role under Jose Mourinho at Porto before joining the Russian giants last summer.
Having fallen out with the Russian coach, Costinha has asked Fifa to cancel his contract so he can better prepare for the upcoming tournament.
"I have sent the rescission order to Fifa and am waiting for their decision. I am focussing on my own mission, which is to train ahead of the World Cup.
"I think if the World Cup was tomorrow it would be impossible for me to be physically prepared, but the World Cup is in June and I have over a month so I want to work hard.
"I will train with Portugeuse side Belenenses and then it is up to the national team staff to decide.
"The good thing is that they are responsible people and want to help me."
Costinha played for many years in the lower divisions in Portugal before coming to the attention of Monaco in the French first division. Leaving the French Riviera he joined Porto, where he won the Champions League in 2003/04 season.
