Coach to sign new deal

11/06/2006: Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has agreed a two-year extension on his contract, which is subject to Portugal's World Cup performance.

The Brazilian born 57-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the World Cup, has been coach of the Portuguese national team since 2003.

He led Portugal to the finals of the 2004 European Football Championship, in doing so becoming the first foreign coach ever to lead any team to the final of that event.

He was also in the running for the new England team coach to replace for Sven Goran Eriksson, but he turned the job down.

Portuguese football federation chief Gilberto Madail revealed that a new contract extension would be signed, depending on Portugal's feat at the World Cup 2006.

He said: "We have agreed in principle but I can't reveal the details at the moment. If Scolari extends his contract, it will be for two years, not four, and will run until Euro 2008."
