Coach to ring the changes

19/06/2006: Holland coach Marco van Basten has revealed he will rest a number of his stars for the clash with Argentina on Wednesday.

Having booked their safe passage through with wins over Serbia and Montenegro and the Ivory Coast, Holland face Argentina to decide the Group C winners.

However, van Basten has insisted he will rest his players who currently have a yellow card to ensure they are all available for when the knockout phase starts.

Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Joris Mathijsen, Khalis Boulahrouz and Johnny Heitinga all face a one game ban if they pick up another yellow card against Argentina, who have similar worries over Hernan Crespo, Gabriel Heinze, Javier Saviola and Luis Gonzalez.

Van Basten said: "Where we think that it's risky to line up certain players, we have to make a choice. The players have had one and a half days off and we couldn't speak to them a lot.

"We first want to give clarity to the players before we announce it to others. The policy is not to take risks with yellow cards and that counts for both attack and defence.

"I don't see a difference between attackers and defenders in that way. Attackers can also pick up a yellow card."

The Dutch tactician has also played down the injury fears concerning Heitinga and Philip Cocu.
