Chimbonda fears for squad place
24/04/2006: Despite being named in the Professional Footballers' Association's Team of the Year on Sunday, Wigan star Pascal Chimbonda does not expect to make the France squad for this year's World Cup.
The full-back pipped players such as Steve Finnan, Gary Neville and Luke Young to the right-back berth in the Team of The Year, which is picked by his peers in the league.
"I have not given up hope. The window is still open, but the manager tends to look at the bigger players at the bigger clubs," Chimbonda told the PA
"Maybe he (Raymond Domenech) did not think Wigan would do as well as they have, so in that respect it will hardly be a surprise if I don't make it.
"I am sure the manager has made up his mind on the 23 he is going to take, so I don't think winning this award will make that much of a difference."
Chimbonda was signed by Wigan Athletic from Bastia last summer, having previously spent four season's at Le Havre.
He has become a favourite with the Wigan supporters due to his all-action performances and has recently been linked with a move to 2005 Champions League winners Liverpool.
