Carrick ready for England

25/06/2006: Michael Carrick, who is expected to start against Ecuador on Sunday, says the last-16 clash is the biggest of his career.

The Spurs man is expected to be handed the role of holding midfielder against the South American side as England look to book a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Carrick says that previously the most important game he had played in was Tottenham's clash against West Ham in the final match of last season as the White Hart Lane outfit looked to secure a Champions League place.

However, he feels the meeting with Ecuador outstrips that match. He said: "This is the biggest game of my career by far. There is not one that has come close to this one."

Speaking to the FA's website he added: "This is what you work towards your whole career - to play in a World Cup."
