Cannavaro hails Azzurri fans
11/06/2006: Fabio Cannavaro has sung the praises of the Italy fans and hopes that the Azzurri can repay them with results on the pitch.
Marcello Lippi's side looked far from convincing in their World Cup warm-up matches. However, opposing teams will know that you write off Italy - who are notorious slow starters in tournaments - at your peril.
Despite their below-par showings ahead of the World Cup 2006 the Italy fans, who will be hoping their team can repeat their feat of 1982, are backing the country with their usual passion.
And Cannavaro says their support is highly valued by the squad, commenting: "In the name of the team, I want to thank everyone for the warm reception we have received since our arrival to Germany."
