Cahill comeback on course

18/05/2006: Tim Cahill is confident he can overcome his recent knee injury and secure a place in the Socceroos' starting XI.

The Everton midfielder's World Cup 2006 hopes were hanging by a thread after picking up a knee injury against Birmingham City in April.

However, the star has now stepped up his training regime and is on course for Germany.

"The injury is looking good," Cahill told The Age. "I have another scan later this week and I will see how I get on but I am optimistic and I am giving myself every chance of going.

"I am running now and have spoken to everyone in Australia and they are going to take me all the way regardless, which is great to hear. I am just going to keep my fingers crossed and keep working really hard."

Cahill has been a revelation since joining Everton from Millwall prior to the 2004/5 season which saw his side secure qualification for the Champions League.
