Cafu targets Brazil return
21/11/2006: Two-time World Cup winner Cafu is eyeing a return to the Brazil national team under new boss Dunga.
The 36-year-old right-back played in the World Cup final on three consecutive occasions, winning the trophy in both 1994 and 2002, while he was the national captain at this year's tournament which ended in a disappointing quarter-final exit.
Alberto Parreira stepped down as coach following this summer's exit in Germany and has since been replaced by former Brazil captain Dunga, who has yet to call on the services of the AC Milan defender.
Cafu, who is the Selecao's most capped player with 148 appearances, accepts that his career is coming to a close but has made himself available to the new coach, who seems to be favouring new younger players in his squad.
"I am not going to request Dunga calls me up," Cafu was quoted as saying by the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper. "But I am ready to play for Brazil if Dunga needs me.
"The most important thing for my career is that I continue playing. But I want to continue playing for the Brazilian national team.
"I don't think I will be able to play in South Africa 2010, but I am available."
