Borowski replaces Ballack

08/06/2006: Tim Borowski seems likely to take the place of the crocked German World Cup star Michael Ballack when Jurgen Klinsmann names his line-up for their opening game in Germany 2006.

Ballack has not trained since injuring his calf muscle in a warm-up friendly fixture against Columbia earlier this week.

Bastian Schweinsteiger looks set to play on the left hand side of midfield with Borowski slotting into the middle.

Schweinsteiger and Bernt Schneider are set to support the attacking pair of Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose from the flanks.

Paulo Wanchope will spearhead the attack for Costa Rica as the side who upset Scotland in 1990 hope to similarly embarrass the under pressure hosts.

Costa Rica are expected to pack the midfield and hope to catch Germany on the counter attack.
