Boost for van Basten
07/06/2006: Holland coach Marco van Basten has been boosted by the news that winger Rafael van der Vaart has returned to training.
Van Basten's World Cup warm-up plans looked to be going awry as the Dutch squad suffered a number of injury problems with Wesley Sneider, Phillip Cocu and Giovanni van Bronkhurst all picking up knocks in the physical friendly encounter against Australia. That was after van der Vaart aggravated an ankle problem at the beginning of last week.
However, van der Vaart has rejoined his team-mates in full training, as has van Bronkhurst. And with Cocu and Sneider put through their paces by the Holland physio, van Basten's injury worries appear to be easing.
However, the former Dutch international is not taking any risks and has told experienced campaigner Nigel de Jong and youngster Stijn Schaars to be prepared for a possible call-up to the squad ahead of Friday's deadline.
