Blokhin praises achievement
01/07/2006: Oleg Blokhin praised his squad after the quarter final loss to Italy, insisting their last eight appearance was 'a great achievement'.
Ukraine's coach refused to blame his players for the 3-0 defeat to the Azzurri and said that bad luck did not play a part in the result in Hamburg.
Gianluca Zambrotta put Italy in front after just six minutes, with Luca Toni then scoring twice in the second half to seal their place in the last four. Ukraine did have their chances and struck the bar with a header, but they always looked second best.
Blokhin stated: "There's no such thing as good or bad luck here.
"The Italians have a great team and they don't forgive mistakes. On the whole our team deserves great praise.
"I am disappointed that we are out but this World Cup has been a great achievement for us."
