Big Phil pleased as Portugal progress

18/06/2006: Luiz Felipe Scolari was delighted with Portugal's display in the 2-0 win over Iran that secured their qualification from Group D

Second-half goals from Deco and Cristiano Ronaldo were enough for Scolari's men to book their place in the next phase of the World Cup.

Afterwards the boss declared himself pleased with what he had seen and believes it was his side's best performance in recent games.

"We respected Iran but we imposed our quality," said Scolari.

"I thought Portugal played better than they have done in the last seven or eight games."

It is the first time Portugal have made it past the group stages since 1966 when they were knocked out by England at the semi-final stage and they join Argentina, Holland, England, Germany and Ecuador so far in the last 16.
