Betting on the World Cup
The World Cup brings with it a whole raft of betting opportunities ranging from the most common bet on the outright winner (who is going to win the World Cup) to which player will score the most goals, commonly known as a Top goalscorer bet.
In between these two standard betting opportunities there lies many other gambling opportunities for traders who believe through skill, knowledge or perhaps just a hunch that they can predict the outcome of football games at World Cup 2006.
A popular bet with once a year (or once every four year!) punters is a first goalscorer bet. Pick your favourite player and enjoy the game knowing if your man scores first then not only will your team be leading but you will also have money from the bookies.
Personally I think this type of bet – usually known as simply First goalscorer – can be bettered for excitement by the Last Goalscorer bet meaning once the wager has been placed you have the excitement right up to the end of the 90 minutes rather than missing out on the fun if someone other than your selection is the first goalscorer. . Be careful not to select a player who might be tactically substituted with 15 minutes to play. It's not a good site to see your last goalscorer player trudging off the field of play.
Another popular bet is the Correct Score Bet. As it says on the tin – a punter has to predict the correct score over 90 minutes. Tricky as this may sound it is possible especially if you expect a tight and tactical battle. One word of advice here – if you fancy the game to finish 0-0 then don't back 0-0. Instead ask for odds on their being no goalscorer that will be quoted in the first/last goalscorer market talked about above. Backing this scenario means if there is an own goal scored in a 1-0 win you will still be paid out as own goals do not count for betting purposes.
Right, so we've talked about the top goalscorer, outright winner, first and last goalscorer and a little about correct score betting – that's just the start.
Every team in the World Cup competition will be offered odds on how far they will progress i.e at what stage they will be knocked out of the cup. First round, second round, unluckily in the quarterfinals, heartbreakingly in the semi-finals?
Don't forget about group betting – think your team will go through unbeaten and top their group? Then Group odds are what you need. Be aware though the best teams don't always win their group. .
