Best goals of World Cup 2006
07/07/2006: GOAL A: Philip Lahm, Germany v Costa Rica
Lahm scored the first and one of the best goals in the opening ten minutes of the game to set the tone for the tournament. A right-footed left back the Bayern Munich star cut inside before unleashing a smashing right-foot effort.
GOAL B: Torsten Frings, Germany v Costa Rica
Making the opening game safe for the eventual sem-finalists. Frings fired in a long range cracker to ensure some sub-editor somewhere could use the headline. "Frings can only get better." They didn't for Torsten as he was banned for the semi-final for attacking Julio Cruz,
GOAL C: Tomas Rosicky, Czech Rep v USA
It was this outside the area effort which persuaded many to bet on the Czech Republic to win the tournament. The Arsenal-bound midfielder unfortunately got no further than the first stage.
GOAL D: Fernando Torres, Spain v Ukraine
Brilliantly set up by Carlos Puyol, the overrated striker produced a cool finish to complete the move. He now looks premiership bound.
GOAL E: Steven Gerrard, England v Trinidad and Tobago
The mighty Gerrard shackled for so long by the ineffective, lazy and untalented Lampard showed what he could do if allowed a free reign in the centre of the park with a classic Gerrard finish from outside the box.
GOAL F: Esteban Cambiasso, Argentina v Serbia
This 24-man move has been devalued by many due to the poor opposition. Still, to string so many passes together in a row is a mighty ask with the move finished off by the comb over kid himself.
GOAL G: Bakary Kone, Ivory Coast v Holland
A fine strike from outside the area gave the Ivory Coast an ourtside chance of progressing against a workmanlike Dutch side who were already 2-0 up at the time.
GOAL H: Deco, Portugal v Iran
Some people's idea of the the player of the tournament, the diminutive playmaker produced a strike out of the top draw to produce, in my opinion, the best goal of World Cup 2006
GOAL I: Joe Cole, Sweden v England
Taking a headed clearance on his chest, Cole launched a sublime volley to leave the Swedish keeper with no chance. A shame he proved ineffective for the rest of the time he spent on the pitch.
GOAL J: Maxi Rodriguez, Argentina v Mexico
Taking a raking crossfield ball on his chest, the Italian-born midfielder calming 'wellied' the ball past the Mexican keeper to win the match for his side in a game they were in danger of losing.
Any been missed out of this list. Let me known with a description if possible.
