Baraja omission leaves 'bad taste'

17/05/2006: David Albelda is as surprised as everybody else by the omission of Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja from Spain's World Cup squad.

"It's very strange," Baraja's Valencia team mate David Albelda said in Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

"The midfield players that are going like Marcos Senna, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas have very few caps between them.

"Luis Aragones is the one who decides and he will have his reasons, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that Ruben won't be going because he deserves to go to this World Cup."

Ruben Baraja played for Valladolid and Athletico Madrid before joining Valencia in 2000, the same year the 30-year-old made his debut for the Spanish national side.
