Ballack on track to face Poles

11/06/2006: Germany captain Michael Ballack is expected to face Poland on Wednesday having stepped up his fitness over the weekend.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann opted to leave the Chelsea midfielder out of the host nation's 4-2 win over Costa Rica on Friday due to a calf injury.

However, having embarked on an individual fitness program, Ballack is on course to feature in Germany's second Group A game.

Team spokesman Uli Voigt confirmed: "He is being made fit for the match with Poland."

Klinsmann's withdrawal of the player from his plans on Friday sparked rumours of a rift between the pair, only for Ballack to dismiss those claims.
