Ballack excited by return

13/06/2006: Michael Ballack insists he has no problem with Jurgen Klinsmann as he prepares to return to the side on Wednesday to face Poland.

The Germany captain missed out on the tournament curtain-raiser after suffering a calf strain in a pre-tournament friendly against Colombia as Klinsmann decided not to risk him, even though Ballack had said he was fit to play against Costa Rica.

The hosts went on to win 4-2 without their influential skipper but it had been suggested that Ballack had fallen out with the coach over his decision not to play him.

However, Ballack insists he has no regrets for saying he was available but that he has accepted Klinsmann's reasoning and now he is just looking forward to getting his own World Cup underway.

"I do not regret saying I was fit," said Ballack. "Why should I lie?

"If people asked how I felt, why shouldn't I give an honest answer?

"I thought I was fit, but he felt it was too risky and took the decision, together with the doctor, and I couldn't influence it.

"I resigned myself to my fate and just had to accept their decision.

"Now I am just happy to be able to play a part again."
