Saviola vows to take his chance

10/06/2006: Argentina striker Javier Saviola is hoping his partnership with Hernan Crespo will gel and keep Lionel Messi on the bench.

Saviola has endured a frustrating year after falling out of favour at Barcelona before joining Seville. Messi has since joined Barca and made a real impact, although he was hampered by a thigh problem at the end of last season.

Argentina boss Jose Pekerman has elected to keep Messi on the bench for the Group C opener against Ivory Coast, with Saviola starting alongside Crespo, and Saviola is determined to put down an early marker.
