How to Bet on the World Cup
It was not long ago that no one would have taken many African players seriously – let alone African teams, but in the modern era this has all changed. Not only do African players now rank amongst some of the best in the world, but we have one team in the top ten betting favourites for the World Cup win (Ivory Coast), and the tournament is being held in an African nation.
Although it is unlikely that any African country will win the cup (even Ivory Coast are still 40 to 1 outsiders), it looks a good year for one of them to make a deep push. Home advantage can apply to continents as well as it can to countries, and considering the large odds on offer from the African teams, a back with the intention of laying off as the odds shrink in the later stages looks great value.
Long shot outsiders are nearly always over priced in any betting market, but especially one like the World Cup where the variance is very high and outsiders frequently do well. All the African teams will be pumped up to the max about playing on home soil, and considering these factors it would not be surprising to see one of them make a deep run in the cup.
