England Player Profiles
Stephen David Warnock, born on 12 December 1981 in Ormskirk, Lancashire.
As a boy , Warnock played for the Liverpool youth team, and would go on to be in and around the first team set-up at Anfield from 2002 until 2007. During this time, Warnock had a spell on loan at Bradford City playing a total of 12 games scoring one goal.
But it was during a spell on loan at Coventry City where the left back really began to show his potential. he played for The Sky Blues 44 times scoring three goals before returning to Liverpool in 2004. Altogether he played 67 times for Liverpool but again scoring just one goal.
In January 2007 , Warnock moved to Blackburn Rovers, making his debut in the FA Cup 4th round against Luton. Warnock's performances saw him earn praise and he was linked with a call up for the England squad.
In May 2008, that call up arrived and Warnock was rewarded for his fine club form with a place in the England squad for a friendly against the USA, as well as the trip to Trinidad and Tobago. Warnock would come on for the final moments in that game.
After two years at Ewood Park, and 88 appearances, Warnock soon began to attract interest from other clubs and in August 2009 Warnock would sign for Aston Villa.
Warnock has had a very good first season at Villa Park, and his performances have earned a place in the
provisional World Cup squad, and despite only a few minutes of international experience, after the retirement of Wayne Bridge, Warnock could well force his way in to final 23, and earn a place on the plane to South Africa.
