Shaun Wright-Phillips was born in South London on October 25th 1981 and is the adopted son of former England striker and Arsenal legend Ian Wright.
The player’s pace from a standing start and his low centre of gravity allow him to burst past opposition and make him a very exciting player to watch.
In his first spell with Manchester City he became fans favourite and at this stage of his career he played as an out and out winger with few responsibilities to track back.
Wright-Phillips then moved to Chelsea, a move that appeared to send his career backwards as the player struggled to hold down a regular first team place. In this three year spell the he also had to cope with the disappointment of missing out on Sven-Goran Eriksson’s World Cup squad in 2006 and the lack of first team football clearly played a part.
Wright-Phillips looks a more complete player now in his second spell with Manchester City. He has been left out at times this term in yet another star-studded squad but has impressed with his work ethic and enthusiasm when given a chance. Wright-Phillips works back really hard to cover his full back and at stages this season he has also played central midfield where he was something of a revelation.
His England career has spanned over 30 games and the player has also weighed in with 6 goals in this period. As an impact player this speedy live-wire provides a real cutting edge.
