England Player Profiles

Michael Richard Dawson was born In Northallerton, England on November 18th, 1983, and is the only player in the current England squad who hasn’t yet gained a senior cap. That is not to say that he has not played for his country and he was a key member of the U-21 set up playing 13 games at that level.

Last minute injury to England skipper Rio Ferdinand has meant the Dawson will have probably had to cancel his holiday plans but most England fans would not begrudge him his chance.

Dawson learnt his trade at Nottingham Forest alongside England veteran Des Walker and although this team were on the wane it was always accepted that this young defender had the ability to play in the Premier League.

His subsequent move to Spurs had seen him progress and because of long-standing injuries to Jonathan Woodgate  he’s had plenty of chances to impress this season. It would be fair to say he has blossomed at the heart of Tottenham’s defence alongside another England ace in Ledley King.

Dawson has always been terrific in the air but his overall game has also risen to a level where he now commands a first team place with his club, who have rewarded him with a new contract that keeps him in North London til 2015.

Argentina striker Carlos Tevez called him “the best English defender I’ve played against,” this season and if called upon he will be no weak link.
