James Lee Duncan Carragher was born in Bootle on 28th June 1978 and has not moved far from his birthplace since, having dedicated himself to a career with local club Liverpool FC.
The defender’s selection to Fabio Capello’s squad raised more than a few eyebrows given the player had retired from international duty some three years earlier but few doubt his overall quality and experience.
Jamie’s career with The Reds may lack a Premier League title but that is all from a period where he has been influential in a Champions League triumph as well as winning FA and League Cups.
Carragher had been unhappy being pressed into unfamiliar surroundings in central midfield and at full back for his country, however his overall versatility mean he might again pop up in some unexpected places depending on injury and suspension in the upcoming tournament. Injury doubts surrounding Ledley King and Rio Ferdinand mean that he is a welcome addition to the squad to cover his favourite position at centre back as well as providing an alternative to attacking full back Glen Johnson.
