James Philip Milner was born on 4th January 1986 and is one of two Leed-born players in the current England squad along with Aaron Lennon.
Like Lennon, Milner was forced into action with his home-town club as a 16-year-old and although at this early stage in his career the midfielder was too easily shrugged off the ball it was clear to see he had plenty of talent.
Milner was a talented all-rounder at school excelling as a cricketer, sprinter and cross country runner but has produced the kind of form in the Premiership this season that has vindicated his choice of football as a career. Milner was signed by his current club Aston Villa for a cool £20m but that increasingly looks like a bargain as driving performances in the centre of midfield and on either flank have earned rave reviews.
Milner can cover a variety of positions and having come through the England U-21 ranks has the undoubted support of Stuart Pearce amongst the current England backroom staff.
