Emile Heskey

England Player Profiles

Emile William Ivanhoe Heskey was born in Leicester on the 11th January 1978 and remains a massive enigma in the modern game.

Heskey was brilliant in a spell with his hometown club under manager Martin O’Neill who guided the Foxes to heights that they have never experienced before or since. A hulking figure Heskey was played as a loan striker at this point in his career and appeared to be the pivot that his whole team played around. Leicester used this impressive athlete to hold the ball and bulldoze the opposition defence.

England’s management were suitably impressed and since his arrival on the scene in the top flight the 6ft 3in striker has notched up close to 60 caps for England. Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen before him were always delighted with his overall contribution but the fact is his return of 7 goals has left many fans perplexed.

After Leicester Heskey moved to Liverpool which was only partially successful and he has again teamed up with former boss Martin O’Neill, this time at Villa. However the story remains the same, plenty of application but few goals.
