Aaron Lennon

England Player Profiles

Aaron Justin Lennon was born in Chapelton, Leeds, on April 16th 1987 and at just 23 years of age it is amazing to think he has the experience of seven seasons behind him.

Lennon showed tremendous promise at an early age and became the first player in the country to receive a boot deal from Adidas aged just 14. His exploits for Leeds Academy soon meant that he also became a serious consideration for first team duties and at the tender age of just 16 years and 129 days he became the youngest black player to make a debut in the Premier League.

The young winger may have been happy playing for his hometown club but relegation and financial problems for The Whites meant they were forced to sell the family silver. Terrific prospects like Lennon and James Milner were let go and so it was that Lennon moved to Spurs for around £1m in June 2005.

On the right hand side of midfield Lennon has become a player with that rare asset of blinding pace that can terrify even the best defenders. Allied to this tremendous speed his overall form has improved and despite a groin problem in December Lennon has just enjoyed his most successful season with Tottenham.
