Odds on that Capello will stay as England coach

England World Cup Blog

He may have infuriated you with his stubborn nature, the 4-4-2 might not have been what you wanted to see, but Fabio Capello is still the man to lead England forward.

As the aftermath of England's World Cup failure continues, the major decision is yet to be made, should The FA back, or sack? They have decided to take two weeks to make this decision, but in my mind even this is too long.

Capello was the man that guided England to 9 wins from 10 qualifying games, and while things didn't go according to plan in South Africa, he is still the man for the next two years. Mainly because there are no better alternatives.

The clamber for an English manager will inevitably increase following the failure of a foreign manager, but are there any English managers that are better then Capello? Unfortunately the answer is no.

Harry Redknapp is the man been touted as a replacement, but personally I feel that we would be taking a step backwards if England were to relieve Capello of his duties in favour of the current Tottenham manager.

Other options include the likes of Stuart Pearce, and other former England players like David Beckham and Alan Shearer, but none of these can compete with Capello in terms of tactical knowledge or experience.

We could go for another foreign manager, and if Capello was to go, this is what I would do, with somebody like Guus Hiddink my personal choice. But Hiddink has just started a job as Turkey manager, so it is unlikely he would leave. Plus a foreign manager would have to take time to learn about English football, and learn about the players, Capello already knows this.

In my eyes there is no better candidate out there to take over as England manager at the present, I would stick with Capello for the next two years, on the condition that he builds a side for the long term, by then Capello could hand over to somebody like Stuart Pearce, who will inherit a young and hungry squad. This is the way for England to move forward.

He's got a record as a coach. The WC is a different story. He's got to handle different players. Days before the tournament, one of his defenders was ruled out in Rio Ferdinand who is supposed to be the captain. He's got lots of things to consider for the team. At least they weren't eliminated in the first round because that would be a great shame.

This article just about sums up the England World Cup debacle for a friend of mine, as well as the state of the game in England in general. Great stuff.
