After England’s hopes of winning the World Cup were shattered, supporters across the country are questioning every decision. But the main question that needs answering is, what actually went wrong for England?
Some would say that after yesterday, although England lost, it would be harsh to abuse the players and boo them off the pitch, but to be fair, wouldn’t you want the players to hear your opinions after saving up for two years, making huge sacrifices to watch four matches like that?
Many think that the manager is to blame, many blame the tactics and many blame the players. You have to say that it’s the players that underperformed. Players like Rooney and Gerrard who are England’s key players just didn’t produce the usual quality that they do week in, week out in the Premiership.
Rooney, the phenomenal player that we see at Manchester United looked as if he didn’t turn up to this World Cup. He was the man to score us goals, to win us games and to help lead us to victory. Maybe the pressure of the whole situation got to him, maybe the type of ball made him underperform or was it that maybe he is still injured.
Steven Gerrard, England’s captain, couldn’t lead the team to the quarter final. Although he didn’t play bad in every game, by a player of his standard, he underperformed. But maybe you could blame it on the manager for playing him too wide, not seeing enough of the ball to play in that killer pass to Rooney. Maybe if he had have played just behind Rooney like he does with Torres, they both could have had a good world cup.
To be fair, most things went wrong for England, they didn’t even have any luck, especially with that terrible decision where the ball clearly crossed the line. Maybe, if all these maybes had of happened, something might have just gone right for England. But football is all about if, buts and maybes. As much as it hurts, we need to move on and move forward from the disaster that was the 2010 World Cup.

... Capello got it all wrong, surely Gerrard should have played behind Rooney,Joe Cole on the left.Lampard on the right and Barry holding centre midfeild. Most people I have talked too agrees with this line up. Ask yourself this! Why didnt Cappello at least try this formation in the warm up matches??? Crazy, when he introduced Joe Cole he put him on the right of midfield. Defoe should have never played, lets be fair a 5ft 4 inch Centre forward have you heard of anything ridiculas, with the above formation I think the team would have clicked, but more important so did the players! |
