A quick look at the Betfair markets sees the price on England to beat Germany on penalties steady at a fairly generous 10/1 but the betting exchange makes the Germans a slight favourite to win the game on penalties at 9/1.
The history behind the two nation's rivalry in tournament football is well documented but it is the two defeats to Germany on penalties that still cause pain to English fans - mainly because England were the better side in both games and should have won in 90 or 120 minutes. We already took a look at one reason why Germany are better at penalties but it is heartening to know Capello looks like he has chosen his five players to take the spot kicks rather than the usual "Do you fancy it?" approach in previous tournaments.
Anyway below, for anyone who has a few minutes to spare, is one of England's rare penalty victories against Spain in 1996.
