USA v Ghana Betting Preview

Betting Odds

The only African side left in the tournament Ghana take on the USA knowing they have all continents betting on them. But it will be a big ask to knock out the USA, who will have their tails up following the stoppage time goal that booked their place in the last 16.

Many American fans would have been planning their journey home before Landon Donovan fired home to seal a dramatic win over Algeria. The goal was enough to see the USA top the group and seal a meeting with Ghana.

The match will give the USA chance to avenge the two sides meeting at the 2006 World Cup, where the Black Stars 2-1 win sent the Americans home. But since then the USA have improved, and with players like Donovan and Clint Dempsey, Ghana will have to work very hard for a similar result in Rustenburg.

Coach Bob Bradley will be looking for his side to take in the sort of form they showed in the second half against Slovenia, a performance that effectively saved their fortunes in South Africa. Trailing 2-0, goals from Donovan and Michael Bradley rescued a point and since then confidence has been high around the US camp.

There will be the worry that the defensive wobbles that saw Slovenia create chance after chance could return, but Jay DeMerit looked solid against the Algerians, and if he will be out to make sure Everton keeper Tim Howard has a quiet night.

Striker Herculez Gomez (great name) could be set to miss out on the starting 11, after been substituted at half time against Algeria, and Benny Feilhaber will be looking to replace him from the start against Ghana. Elsewhere, AC Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu will be pressing for a recall having missed out on Wednesday.

USA: 2.76

Ghana: 3

Draw: 3.5

Prediction

USA 3-3 Ghana

For Ghana, striker Matthew Amoah will be pressing for a recall, as the African side are desperately short of goals. Only Asamoah Gyan has scored for them so far in South Africa, and both of his goals were from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari will be pushing for a start after coming on in the defeat to Germany. The Black Stars, look powerful and strong and playing Muntari could only add to this.

Milovan Rajevac will no the pressure his side is under from the continent, but there is no reason why his side can't get a result against the more fancied USA. Ghana caused Germany several problems on Wednesday, and the USA defence will have to keep an eye out for players like Kevin Prince Boateng, who has been one of the star performers so far for Ghana.

If the USA can contain the physical threat posed by Ghana, they should come out winners from this game, because in Donovan, and Dempsey they have players who can unlock any defence. So expect to see the USA in the last 8 come next weekend.
