England v Slovenia Betting Preview

Betting Odds

Slovenia top Group C after an unconvincing victory against Algeria and a point against the USA in a thrilling 2-2 draw. So a draw in their final game against England will prove to be enough to get them through and this must surely be playing on their minds ahead of this key betting encounter.

2-0 at half time against USA it appeared that passage through was all but sewn up, thanks to two goals from Valter Birsa and Zlatan Ljubijankic. However the Slovenian’s tried to hang on to this lead and were rather fortunate not to lose after the States had a perfectly good third goal chalked off.

The first half display will have worried England’s coaching staff as Slovenia controlled the game passed well and moved USA around to work several openings. Indeed Birsa down the right looked a very good player and his vision allowed them to control the game.

Slovenia will have to be at their best to beat England, who despite a slow start to the tournament are very likely to rally for this last chance saloon chance.

Slovenia 7.8

England 1.51

Draw 4.6

Correct score prediction: 2-1 England at 10.5

England, Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear. Fabio Capello must be wondering where the team that qualified have disappeared to after one disappointing effort against USA and then possibly the worst performance from an England side in a major championship in living memory against Algeria.

So much was wrong with the performance (or lack of it) against the Desert Foxes it needs to be largely written off and forgotten. On the bright side David James dealt with the fourteen back-passes, thumped at him from all angles, well.

England will be without the suspended Jamie Carragher which means that Matthew Upson will take to the field.

Capello may well have toyed with the idea of changing formation to a 4-5-1 in this game but these waters have now been muddied by former skipper John Terry. The Chelsea stopper, in a comment to the media, has called for the players to come forward to sort out England’s problems and has also talked up the qualities of Joe Cole. Now if Capello does indeed change his formation and include Cole it might appear he has bowed to player pressure and that is not his style at all. Well done John Terry, you may have cost Joe Cole a start!!

England need to win to make sure of progress although a high-scoring draw could also provide an opportunity depending on the result of the USA-Algeria game.

Oh dear.
