I've never been the biggest fan of Graeme Souness' punditry or indeed his management skills but I came across this video below of him talking about why he thinks England are playing so poorly.
His basic argument is that they are physically not up to it because they are training at altitude. His theories are quiet persausive and logical and he talks about his experiences playing for Scotland in World Cup 2006. He was finally dropped by Alex Ferguson for the final game because he was a yard or so off the pace of the game and was performing badly.
More worryingly, he suggests that the England players will be at their lowest point on Wednesday for the game against Slovenia.

... I read Alex Ferguson's book and he said that the weather was so hot in Mexico that Souness lost nearly a stone in 1 match, and was so unwell that he had to be dropped. I'm not convinced that Souness is correct. I think he has been offered that TV job on the basis that he gives astonishing insight. Astonishing insight to a TV producer is bullshit in the real world. I play that game as well, sometimes seeking a memorable blog title over a truer title. To summise, I think Souness is talking pish. |

... Well, I wouldn't believe too much of what Fergie says. The man's an idiot. Souness does sound quite convincing. I want to believe him as it justifies England's poor performance. Still think you could be right about the booze ban though:) |

... It's a hemisphere thing. The plug hole effect. The Europeans are literally upside down and the world is turning the opposite way round... or summat like that. So therefore they are dizzy and unable to perform. The South Americans meanwhile are used to this and are having no problems and therefore playing the best football. |
