Simon Kjaer has a massive future ahead of him and at 21 years of age must be one of the youngest starting centrebacks in the tournament. Kjaer was born in Horsens, Denmark on the 26th of March, 1989, but has already fitted plenty into his young career.
Kjaer was signed by Palermo as a 19 year old but this young strapping near 6ft 3 Dane not only got one or two games but almost immediately established himself in the first team, where he has formed a great partnership with teammate Cesare Bovo. Kjaer is good in the air, strong, takes up good positions and times his challenges well. A veteran of 62 games already for the Sicilian club Kjaer has also weighed in with 5 goals.
Defenders tend to improve as they get older and many reckon that 28 years old is probably the prime in this position which leaves Kjaer an incredible prospect. It is no surprise that Manchester United amongst others have been regularly linked and provided he stays fit his next move is sure to be a massive one. The defender could easily have another 15 more years in the game and would not need to improve, much more/at all, to be a star at a bigger club.
Kjaer was recently called up as a replacement for Per Kroldrup in Denmark’s qualifier against Sweden but typically played so well that he is now first choice in his position, playing the final three group games.
