Portugal have received a severe set back to their chances of winning the World Cup following the withdrawal from the squad of one of their star players Nani.

The Manchester United star injured his shoulder in training and at first it seemed only minor. However, scans have revealed a deeper problem and the winger has been withdrawn from the Portugal squad.

A spokesman for the Portugal FA said: "Nani's injury is worse than we first feared and will not feature in South Africa."

The injury futher strangths Brazil's chance of topping their following the injury and subsequent withdrawal of Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba on Friday. North Korea and the final member of that group.
