Spurs and England striker and former robot Peter Crouch reckons Wayne Rooney can inspire England to lift the World Cup and also become the best player on the planet in the process.
He's also been talking the usual rubbish that sends me over the wall with rage.
Rooney is under heaps of pressure to deliver the goods in South Africa, after a season for Man United in which the 24-year old (who looks 44) banged in an impressive 33 goals. The nation now hopes and expects that the Scouser will transfer that club form over to the international stage.
The media seem to think that Crouch will be the man to start up top with Rooney in England's opening game against the Yanks on Saturday, and the tall one is full of praise for his strike partner.
"Wayne is world-class. He is in the top five players right now - everyone would agree with that. I think he could end up being World Player of the Year, it would be great for England if someone could do that,"Crouch told The Sun.
Then Crouchy talked about the World Cup. "It's an exciting time for everyone concerned. It has been far too long since we won the World Cup or even got close to winning it. I would like to think we can live up to our expectations. We have a strong belief. The way we qualified with games to spare was good. We have a fantastic squad."
And finally: "We have talked ourselves up before and it has been frustrating that we have not lived up to our expectations. This year we would like to go out and really prove ourselves."
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
Why on earth do English footballers always feel the need to come out and say stuff like this before a big game or tournament?
Do your talking on the pitch, not to the reporters. Am I the only one that could punch a wall every time I hear or read this stuff coming out of the mouths of our players?
