Being in Berlin, I missed the Socceraid game but followed it on Twitter and no surprise, the Scots were very happy to see England lose on penalties.
I'm not naive and I do understand why the Scottish people don't want to follow England due to the inherent media bias. However, I was still amused at some of the vitriol as well as some funny tweets.
Soccer Aid (socceraid) was a charity game betwwen some English ex-players and celebrities against a Rest of the World XI to raise money for unesco. The star of the show was the goalkeeper for England Jamie Theakston.
To star with just some funnies from @themanwhofell
Well done Al Murray! You've made James Corden look like a comedy genius.
"Many of these children in Africa can only afford one replica Man Utd strip per season, and it is often the away kit. Every penny counts."
I am awaiting the publishing of the "Clive Tyldsley: my conversations with Woody Harrelson" book.
Some interesting stuff as usual from @A2bworldcup
Take That bring down Westlife. Penalty, saved by Seaman.
Thought there were two balls on the pitch there, but it was just a cutaway shot of James Corden.
England score by cleverly not passing to any of the duffers during the move. Sleekit.
Genuinely puzzled to see big Joe still on. Has to be the most cumbersome and least co-ordinated proper sports champion of all time.
And then the lovely Scottish bile.
A little warm up for the summer...england getting beat in a shootout...only fitting that the american beat them...
Yeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET IN THERE!!!!!! i told you England NEVER win on penalties lol #SoccerAid

... I thought that Woody scoring the winning kick was hilarious! I'm a scot but I don't think it's only us who hate the england team. Surely the Welsh and Irish feel the same. Im sorry if this offends but I desperately want england to fail in south africa, I couldnt live with it if they won the tournament. However that's not going to happen and I'll tell you why http://www.wayupnorth.tv/2010/06/08/why-england-will-fail-in-south-africa/ |

... I enjoyed your blog for the writing style and composition but some of your points were weak. Ferdinand is not a great loss and Gerrard will be a far better captain. Capello will be strong enough to help these freaks and has already proved himself strong enough to avoid letting the media pick the team - like they have done in the past. All is good and we will win the World Cup...if we can beat Spain. |

... You're right, the points were deliberately weak, I was hoping to entice some of the folk here over to me for some banter! In all honesty I think england have a good chance of reaching the semis. I did the prediction chart and it looks like they will play Australia in the 2nd round and France in the quarters. Come on over anyway for a banter sesh! |
